Instantly view today's Bengali (Bangla), English (Gregorian), and Islamic (Hijri) dates — and convert any date between all three calendar systems.
The Bengali calendar (বঙ্গাব্দ, Bônggabdô) is a solar calendar that has governed the rhythm of life across Bengal for centuries. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, the Bengali year starts with Pohela Boishakh — celebrated every April 14th as the Bengali New Year — a festival of joy, color, and cultural pride.
In 1987, the Bangla Academy officially reformed the calendar for Bangladesh to standardize month lengths and align more precisely with the Gregorian system. The first five months each have 31 days; the remaining seven months each have 30 days. A leap day is added in Falgun every four years.
The Bengali era (BS) is roughly 593–594 years behind the Gregorian era (AD/CE). For dates after Pohela Boishakh, subtract 593; for dates before, subtract 594.
